Opal Lamb Wood, 92, of Haw River, NC, peacefully passed away in her birthplace of Alamance County, North Carolina, on January 20, 2026. Born on January 2, 1934, Opal's life was a rich tapestry of love, dedication, and service to her family. Throughout her life, Opal embraced her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her loving son, Curt Wood of Haw River; her devoted daughters, Debbie Cathey (Tommy) of Graham, and Kay Rutherford (Mike) of Walnut Cove; as well as her adoring grandchildren Tammi Deal (Brad), Paige Payne (Jerry), Ashley Tripp (Daniel), Marki Braxton, Jami Covington (Adam), Ami Bullins, Kayli Bowman (Brandon), Josh Rutherford (Terri), and Nate Rutherford. Opal was also blessed with an array of great-grandchildren: Zack (Anissa), Keaton, Brantley (Miranda), Anderson, Maddox (Claire), Brinley, Easton, Audynn, Caedon (Amber), Stevi, Trafton, Braxton, Charleigh, and Hallei, each of whom she adored immensely. Additionally, Opal is survived by her caring sister, Pearl L. Smith. She joins in eternity her beloved parents, Homer and Ethel Boggs Lamb; her loving Husband, Allen Wood; her great-grandson Chandler Bullins; and her sisters, Ruby Phillips and Jewel Ray. Professionally, Opal was a gifted beautician who operated out of her home, bringing beauty and joy to countless individuals over the years. Her hands skillfully provided comfort and care to those she served, leaving a mark not just as a beautician but also a cherished friend. Her unfailing commitment to her faith was exemplified in her longstanding membership at Haw River United Methodist Church. Opal's enthusiasm for life was evident in her interests, which ranged from her support of Duke basketball to her remarkable prowess as an elite bowler over the years as well as an avid golfer who spent a many day playing at Arrowhead. Her competitive spirit and zest for life were infectious, bringing laughter and fellowship to all who joined her in these passions. Above all, Opal Wood will be remembered for her immense capacity for love, her unwavering support of her family, and the wisdom and compassion she showed to all. As we say goodbye to Opal Lamb Wood, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, and rich in meaningful relationships. Her memory will live on as a beacon of love and resilience for her family and friends to cherish forever.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 7, 2026 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with Director John Harrington officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the AuthoraCare Hospice at 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
