Paul Marlon Campbell

March 18, 1945 — March 24, 2021

Chapel Hill

Paul Marlon Campbell, 76, of Chapel Hill, passed away on March 24, 2021; his hand intertwined as always with Sedelia, his wife of 50 years.

He was born in Chatham County and was the oldest son to the late Clyde and Margie Woody Campbell. He graduated from Pittsboro High School and went on to complete Barber College. He served in the US Army and achieved Sgt First Class E5. After his service, he began a long career in telecommunications with GTE/Verizon, from which he retired.

Daily adventures with his wife, celebrating holidays and vacationing with family, brought him his greatest joy. As a father of 2 boys and 7 grandchildren, he took great pleasure in sharing his vast knowledge. He loved to start to his day by going on outings with his brothers or catching a bite at the local dive with friends.

He grew up an avid outdoorsman, hunting and wetting a line as often as he could. From an early age, he learned to work the land, creating a passion for the collection and restoration of antique tractors. A creative mind and skillful hands fostered a love for sketching lands and homesteads. Never a one to be idle, he brought his creativity and love of nature into the lives of others through his woodworking.

As an active member of Antioch Baptist Church, he was most proud of his service as the Church Historian for many years. He enjoyed fellowship and community activities with the Church Men’s Club, especially cooking for the churches annual breakfast.

He is survived by his wife, Sedelia Durham Campbell; sons, Chad Campbell (Mandy) of Burlington and Bryce Campbell (Amanda) of Huntersville; brothers, J.E. Campbell (Ann) of Snow Camp, Ricky Campbell (Kay) of Pittsboro, Dennis Campbell (Cindy) of Pittsboro, sister-in-law Charity Campbell of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Xander, Mia, Luc, Kaitlyn, Nate, Emersyn and Chelsea. Preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Campbell and a sister, Phyllis Robertson.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 2:00pm. A burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive guests, following the burial, around the gazebo. It is asked that those in attendance please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27516, or to Hickory Mountain UMC, c/o Floyd Bowers, 911 Shannon Dr, Siler City, NC 27344.
