Burlington

Paul Ryan Childress, 36, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and people who loved him dearly.  Perhaps no one could describe Paul better than his daughter, Iris, who shared these words about her dad:

"My dad was the best dad in the world. We shared a love for Oreo (the dog), actual Oreos, and cosplaying. He was charming and could brighten a room with his goofy smile or his stupid jokes. We loved going to Raleigh GalaxyCon and watching movies together. He was selfless and always put others above himself. He loved all his friends and family unconditionally and always brightened the mood, no matter the situation. He met most of his current friends in high school and loved them like they were his own family. He was always one to speak his opinion, yet knew when to bite his tongue. He had a love for music and always swore that in another life, he was a musician. He will always be remembered for his semi-extensive shoe collection, his love for video games, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most importantly, his love for his daughter."

Paul had a way of making people feel like family. He was known for his quick wit, sarcasm, and ability to find humor in just about any situation. He was generous and had a big heart. Paul was unapologetically himself. Above all, Paul was a devoted father to Iris. Their shared love of movies, cosplay, and all things nerdy created countless memories together. Being her dad was one of the most meaningful parts of his life, and the love he had for her was evident to everyone who knew him. Paul is survived by his beloved daughter, Iris; his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Michael Thomas; his stepmother, Andrea Childress; his maternal grandmother, Debra Edwards; his brothers, Patrick Childress and Jonathan Childress (Kara); and his sister, Natalie Childress. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Gracie, Serenity, and PJ; his aunts, Theresa (Rodney), Debra, and Cynthia (Jose); his uncle, Derrick (Kim); and many extended family members and dear friends who were like family to him. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Calvin Childress Jr., and his paternal grandparents, Clyde Calvin Childress Sr. and Mary Evans.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at McClure Funeral Service, 1030 South Main Street, Graham, North Carolina.
