Paul Gordon Renigar Sr., 81, passed away peacefully in the presence of his children, Deborah and Gordon, and some of his dearest friends, on January 19th, 2024. A year earlier, he had celebrated his 80th birthday at his beloved Spring Lake Baptist Church, which had become home to him. Paul was ordained to the ministry of the Word in 1972, and called to missionary service in Italy, where he and his family served for almost 25 years, prior to moving back to the United States. It was Paul's greatest joy to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and the power of God’s sovereign grace to transform any life, no matter how broken, into one attuned to divine purpose. He lived as a humble servant to others, reaching out to the brokenhearted, extending hope to the hopeless, and tendering the unconditional love of Christ to those most despised by society. Always remembering that he, too, was a sinner, saved by grace, he faithfully practiced Jesus' teachings found in the Sermon on the Mount. As the light of Paul's life began to set, he and his children were inundated by messages from around the world––people sharing the powerful impact of his kindness on their lives and the Christlike legacy that he was leaving behind. Paul was known for his humor, his love of music, his desire for reconciliation, and his hope that all people would come to know the peace that passes all understanding. His trust in God under the severest trials was extraordinary, and his forgiveness for the wrongs done to him was genuine, for it came as a result of his deep sense of God's grace and sovereignty. Paul is survived by his two children, Deborah R. Prince and Paul G. Renigar Jr., his sister Diane R. Bush, and his two grandsons, Nathaniel and Benjamin Prince. He also leaves behind the community at Spring Lake Baptist Church, where he continued to widen and deepen his understanding of family.
