R. Yvonne Farrell (Mayton), known lovingly to family and friends as Yvonne, passed away on November 1, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on December 24, 1932, she lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to her family, her church, and the simple joys that brought her happiness each day. She was educated at Alexander Wilson and later worked at Western-Electric, where she was employed during the years it was known as AT&T, and also at K-Mart. Through her work, she was known as dependable and hardworking, and she carried those same qualities into every part of her life.
She found great joy in the fellowship of Swepsonville Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. Church was more than a place she attended. Yvonne also enjoyed her Thursday and Saturday night dances with her best friend, Joyce Staley, a tradition that brought her laughter, companionship, and many cherished memories. She took pride in her yard and enjoyed caring for it, finding satisfaction in the beauty and order she created around her home. Yvonne is survived by her sons, Jamie Mayton and his wife Bonnie, and Kerry Mayton; her daughter, Pattie Taylor and her husband Pete; her sister-in-law, Bernice Farrell; and Will Sims, her very special “adopted” son. She also leaves behind many loved ones and friends who will treasure her memory and the example she set through her life. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Jacklyn Mayton, in 1964; her former husband, James “Jimmy” Mayton, Sr.; her parents, Garland P. Farrell and Crystal Sykes Farrell; and her siblings, Annie Gordon Glosson, Bill Farrell, Rex Farrell, Kendall Farrell, and Larrie Sharpe. Their memories remained a part of her life, and now she is reunited with them in eternal rest.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Monday, November 9, 2026 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington with Pastor’s Steve McGowen and Stephen Hall officiating.
