Ralph Lloyd Poe

MELVILLE - Mr. Ralph Lloyd Poe, 82, of 663 Wilkerson Trail, Mebane, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Hospice Home of Burlington. He was the son of the late Thomas Jackson Poe and L.E. Culberson Poe Atkinson. Mr. Poe was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He was retired from General Electric with more than 20 years of service. He was also known to be an avid woodworker and he enjoyed working in his garden. Survivors include his daughter, Gale Varinoski and husband, Tony "Ski", of Mebane; a son, Philip G. Poe and wife, Karen, of Yanceyville; and he has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Roscoe Poe and wife, Mary, of Liberty; and a special daughter-in-law, Kim Middleton, of Mebane. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca W. Poe; a son, Dale Poe; and sister, Ann Thompson. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Mebane Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeffrey Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church, and other times at the residence of the daughter, Gale, at 708 Wilkerson Trail, Mebane, N.C. Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance/Caswell at 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington NC 27215. McClure Funeral Home in Mebane is assisting the Poe family.
