Richard Marvin Burke

April 12, 1943 — November 30, 2022

Graham

Richard Marvin Burke, 79, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 after a brief illness in Fayetteville, NC.  He was born on April 12, 1943 in Burlington NC, was a native of Alamance County and was a member of the first graduating class at Southern Alamance. He was the son of the late George Chasley Burke and Hazel Payne Burke. He was preceded in death by his brother Charlie Burke and his loving wife Linda Lamb Burke.

He worked at Glen Raven Mills for 40+ years until he retired.  After retirement he began working part time at Southwick Golf Course where he had previously  played golf most of his life. He made many lifetime friends on the golf course and I'm sure he's playing with some of them now. He loved coaching his kids in their younger years and made many friends in the Saxapahaw community.  He also loved to play and coach softball in both the City and Church leagues over half of his lifetime.  Many of his teammates and players have numerous fond memories of Dad's competitive spirit over the years.  He loved sports, was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan, loved his Dodger Blue, and will forever be a Washington Redskins fan.  He never met a stranger and would talk your ear off if you let him.  Dad was also a proud Vietnam Veteran serving his country with dignity and honor. He was a great Dad.

He is survived by his son Richie (Tonya) of Mebane, daughter Tami Vaughn (Dink), and granddaughters Katie and Lacie Vaughn all of Graham. His 2nd wife Margaret Strickland, stepson Kenny Strickland (Robbie), their daughters Kendall and Kensley, stepson Gary Strickland, his daughters Taylor, Sydney, and Brooke, all from Fayetteville. And his dog and best buddy, Max.
