Richard Elwood May Jr.

January 9, 1972 — September 7, 2024

Richard Elwood May, Jr., 52, of Randolph County, NC, passed away on September 7, 2024. Born on January 9, 1972, in Orange County, NC, Richard was a dedicated family man and a cherished member of his community.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1991 to 1995, spending much of his deployment stationed in Germany. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that stayed with him throughout his life.

Following his service, Richard found a fulfilling career at Oliver Rubber Company in Asheboro, where he worked for over 16 years. He deeply treasured the friendships he formed with his co-workers and took great pride in his work.

Richard had a variety of interests that brought joy to his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his motorcycles. His hobbies included fishing, swimming in his pool, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. However, his greatest joy came from being a "Paw Paw" to his beloved grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard E. May, Sr., and his brothers, Vernon May and Shane Byrd.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Patricia K. May; his daughters, Destiny Scott and her husband, Kyle, of Graham, and Alesa MacGillivary and her husband, Nick, of Canada; his stepson, Landon Hunt and his wife, Cheyenne, of Asheboro; his mother, Nancy Byrd, and her husband, Pete "Pops," of Mebane; his brother, Hank Byrd, and his wife, Kelly, of Burlington; his sister, Tina Armenta, and her husband, Jose, of Burlington; and his cherished grandchildren, Kennedy, Kaisley, Kyle Jr., Jaxon, and Holland.
