Robert Lee Chapman

Robert Lee Chapman, 94, of Efland, NC passed away on August 1, 2026, in Orange County, North Carolina, at the age of 94. He was born on January 8, 1932, in Fayette County, West Virginia, and lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and quiet strength. Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, and he carried the values of service, discipline, and responsibility with him throughout his life. After his military service, he retired from the United States Department of Defense, where he dedicated many years of faithful work. Robert was a man who took great pride in his family and in the life he built for them. He was a good father who always made sure his family was well taken care of, and that love and commitment were evident in everything he did. He is survived by his sons, Mike Chapman and his wife Karen, and James “Jimmy” Chapman. His family will remember him for his steady presence, his strong character, and the care he showed to those he loved. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Bennett Chapman, whose memory remained close to his heart. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Earl Lester Chapman and Dorothy H. Chapman, as well as his sisters, Hazel Sigmond and Nancy Lunsford, and his brother, Gene Chapman. Their passing was a part of the many losses he carried through the years, yet he remained a source of strength for those around him. Robert had a lifelong love of cars, and he especially enjoyed collecting them and building old hot rods. His strong passion for automobiles was more than a hobby. It was a true part of who he was, and he found joy in the craftsmanship, history, and character of each vehicle he worked on. Those who knew him will remember the pride he took in his cars and the satisfaction he found in bringing old machines back to life. He will be remembered with love and respect by all who knew him. Robert’s life reflected dedication to family, service to country, and a deep appreciation for the simple things that brought him happiness. His memory will live on in the hearts of his sons, his extended family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Graveside service will be held at Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville, WV. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday August 4, 2026, at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane.
