Mebane

Senior Airman Robert Emmett Heffernan IV, an active member of the United States Air Force, died in a motorcycle accident while on his way home to us from Little Rock Air Force Base.  Senior Airman Heffernan is the son of Robert Emmett Heffernan Jr. and Tara Marie Heffernan.  He grew up in Mebane, NC with his sister Victoria Heffernan and brothers Craig Heffernan and Technical Sergeant O’Connor, NCOIC, 724th Ground Maritime Mobility Fleet Maintenance, and his very best buddy, Skippy II. Senior Airman Heffernan turned 22 on August 20.

Senior Airman Heffernan began his service to our country in the US Air Force on March 12, 2019.  He was stationed at Little Rock, Air Force Base 19th Air lift wing, 19th Mission support group, 19th Civil Engineering Squadron, Little Rock, AK. He deployed for six months to Ali Ah-Salem Air Force Base, Kuwait. Senior Airman Heffernan was so very proud to serve his country, his fellow airmen, as well as   any soul who needed a hand or a hug.

Bobby is survived by his Greatest Grandparents Charles and Laurie Russ of St. Petersburg, FL; Grandparents Craig and Dianne Russ of Asheboro; Aunt Laura and Uncle John Roberts, Cousins Zach of Asheboro and Robbie & second cousins Zoey and Conor Roberts of Burlington; and Uncle John Craig and Aunt Tiffani Russ and Cousin Mason of Hilton Head, SC; Bobby is also survived by his Grandparents, Robert Emmett Heffernan Sr. and Carol Jean Heffernan of New London, NC; Uncle Derrick and Aunt Laura Heffernan and cousins Ava, Dillon and Hudson of Mebane.

Bobby enjoyed spending his summers at Badin Lake, swimming, boating, surfing, and jumping his bike off the dock into the lake! He loved spending time with his family and making lifelong friendships and memories. Bobby had a zeal for life that went unmatched. He loved long talks under the stars pondering life after another amazing day was in the bag. Bobby believed that family is the most important thing in life because family will always be there for you. And we were. Always.

Bobby believed that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. The words friends and family use to describe Bobby are: fun loving, daredevil, charismatic, sweet, humble, selfless, spontaneous, adventurous, passionate, and a practical joker with a heart of gold. We can feel his beautiful soul surrounding us all in his light and love. Bobby had the power to illuminate an entire room with only his genuinely mischievous smile. The world lost a beautiful human being, but we all gained an amazing guardian angel.
