Robert Anthony Leingang, 92, passed away on Sunday December 24, 2023 at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Mebane, NC. He was born on September 14, 1931 to the late Anthony and Mildred Leingang in San Francisco, CA. Robert served in the US Air Force as a jet engine mechanic during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1954. He was a Civil Engineer and worked for the Bechtel Corporation for over 35 years. His work took him and his family around the country and all over world. He worked primarily on rapid transit projects starting with BART in San Francisco and finishing his career in Boston as one of the head engineers on The Harbor Tunnel Project, better known as The Big Dig. Robert and his family also spent time working overseas in Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
Robert loved the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox and watched them whenever he could. He also loved crossword puzzles and gardening, as well as home improvement projects which included refurbishing his daughter and son-in-law’s deck, pulling nails at the age of 91.
He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Peregoy (Jeffrey), Lisa Leingang (John Petrizzo); grandchildren, Sydney Peregoy, Joseph Peregoy and Annabel Petrizzo. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Arlene Leingang and his brother James.
The family will receive friends on Friday December 29, 2023 from 1pm-3pm at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane.
