Robert Howard Smith

Mr. Robert Howard Smith of Chapel Hill passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the age of 90. He was the youngest of ten children born to Robert A. Smith and Alice Brooks Smith. Born on August 8, 1924, he lived his entire life in the White Cross community of southern Orange County. Howard was a tobacco farmer and carpenter by trade, and a life-long member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and as a long-term chairman of the Cemetery Committee. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Roberts Smith, and is survived by his children, Judy (David) Atwater of Mebane, Robbie (Becky) Smith of Chapel Hill, Debbie (Mike) Bowden of Semora, and Karen Marceau of Hillsborough, eight grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Hilda Warren of Wake Forest and Delilah Daniel of Durham. The family will receive friends on Friday January 23rd, 2015 from 10-11AM in the Antioch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, with the funeral being held at 11 AM in the sanctuary.
