Rose (Hall) Windley Bayliff

February 7, 1929 — February 6, 2024

Graham

Rose Hall Windley-Bayliff of Windham, ME went Home to be with the Lord one day before her 95th birthday.

Rose was born in Charlottesville, VA on February 7, 1929, to Joseph and Frances Hall. The family moved to Burlington, NC when she was 3 years old.  Rose loved growing up with her dad’s siblings, who moved into their four room home after the death of their mother. When she was 14, her baby sister Nancy was born.

After high school, Rose went to work for Burlington Mills.  Two months after they met in 1949, she married James Windley.   Jim had recently gotten out of the U.S. Navy and was working for the IRS.  While living in Greensboro, NC, they had three baby girls.  Jim went back into the Navy, and spent a year in Vietnam.  After coming home, they spent the rest of his career moving to different locations, primarily on the US east coast.  In 1978, retirement took them back to NC and they settled in Graham.

Throughout her years as a Navy wife, Rose acclimated to every station.  She and Jim were involved and active in each church they attended.  She often worked in the church office, always sang in the choir, taught children’s Sunday School, and later taught a senior women’s class at Glen Hope Baptist Church for many years. On June 19,1983, at the age of 55, Jim graduated to Heaven after battling renal cancer.

In 1986, Rose married James Bayliff of Graham.  His family embraced her with open arms. James passed away in Oct. 1990.

Rose loved spending time with her family, often baking for them.  Her specialties were biscuits and pound cakes. After the passing of her youngest daughter and her only sister, Rose decided she wanted to move to Maine to be closer to family. In April 2014, she moved into the apartment that her granddaughter and family had built for her in Gorham. Rose lived there until the summer of 2023, when she moved into her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Windham due to declining health.  She loved living in Maine, enjoying her time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the snow and her new home church, Galilee Baptist in Gorham.

Rose is survived by her daughters, Kathy Carter (David) of Jessup, MD; Jana Halfacre (Mark) of Windham, ME; Son-in-law, Charlie Jackson (Lisa) of Ramsuar, NC; her first born and only grandson, James Pace of Westbrook, ME; granddaughters Jennifer Stanfield of Glen Burnie, MD, Lacie Kennedy of Gorham ME, Windley Snyder of Brunswick ME, Jessica Rice of Jessup, MD; her only nephew, David Hensley (Allison) of High Point, NC; nine much loved great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Rose was predeceased by her parents and husbands, her daughter, Rebekah Windley Jackson, and her sister, Nancy Hall Hensley.

There will be a visitation at 1:30 p.m. on March 2, with a service following at 2:00, led by The Rev. Bob Stephenson at McClure Funeral Service Chapel, Main St., Graham.
