Ruby Novella Lilley Snyder

December 1, 1936 — May 28, 2025

Efland

Ruby, also known as Maw Maw, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025 at the age of 88.   She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The daughter of Leonard and Elma Lilley, she was born on December 1, 1936 in Tarboro NC. She was a devoted wife to the love of her life, Thurman “Bob” Snyder (deceased), for 57 years. She is survived by her children: Karen (David) Bailey of Southport NC, Donna (Andy) Lloyd and Kenny (Rhonda) Snyder, and Stephanie (Tim) O’Rourke of Efland NC; grandchildren Jennifer Lloyd of Los Angeles CA, Alex (Beth) Lloyd of Mebane NC, Kyle (Melissa) Lloyd of Efland NC, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Compton of Cedar Grove NC, Andrew (Sarah) Snyder of Durham NC, Dustin Bailey of Southport NC, and Jordan Snyder of Charlotte NC; and great-grandchildren Eli Barber, Hayden Compton, Alton Lloyd, Reese Compton, Henry Lloyd, Evie-Quinn Lloyd, Ensley Compton, and Gentry Lloyd. She was known for her devotion to her husband and had a deep love and affection for her family.  Loving hugs and kisses were abundant throughout their lives. She had an incredibly generous nature. She spent six years caring for her mother and father before their passing. Her fun-loving yet stoic nature was familiar to all who knew her. She was an active member of the community for many years, but as her mobility declined, she enjoyed spending the majority of her time visiting with her family and friends at home. She loved to cook and was renowned for her BBQ sauce and chicken & dumplings. She was wickedly smart and enjoyed debating various subjects with family and friends. She was competitive and loved to play games, her favorite was Yahtzee. She liked to watch sports of all kinds, and was a great athlete in her youth—in fact, in the ‘60’s she won a trophy for bowling a 280! She loved listening to music, especially Cajun Beausoleil and country gospel, but her favorite artist was Marty Robbins. She was an avid reader and looking at her personal library you would think she’d consumed every romance novel that was ever published. The beach was her favorite place to visit with her late husband, and she collected lighthouses which were displayed prominently throughout her home. As the cornerstone of her family, she will be deeply missed.
