Ruth Evelyn Dodson Byrd

Ruth Evelyn Dodson Byrd, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024, at the age of 91 in her home. Born on March 25, 1933, in Alamance County to the late George and Hattie Dodson, Ruth's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family bonds.  Ruth's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family and her faith. She was the cherished mother of Michael Byrd (Sharon) and Tommy Byrd (Jennifer), mother-in-law to Jackie Byrd, and an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Her legacy of love continues through her seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored with all her heart.  Ruth found solace and joy in reading her Bible, an activity that not only nurtured her soul but also inspired those around her. Her musical talents were evident as she played the piano, filling her home with the harmonious sounds of Gospel music. Ruth's love for word search books kept her mind sharp.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gattis Byrd; 4 siblings; her son, John Byrd Sr. and a grandson John Byrd Jr.  A funeral service will be held on Friday September 13, 2024 at 11am in the McClure Funeral Chapel in Mebane, officiated by Pastor David Jackson.  The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 10am-11am.  Burial will follow the service in Mt.
