Samuel Harding Jones Jr.

ELON - Mr. Samuel "Sam" H. Jones Jr., 67, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Hospice Home in Burlington. Sam served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Major with 17 years of service. As a 1st Lt., he served on the ground in Vietnam. After his service, Sam became the Chief of Police in Elon before becoming a private investigator and polygraph examiner. Later, he was employed as a Registered Nurse. He was a member of Vickers Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by sons, William W. Jones and Samuel T. Jones; brother, Larry T. Jones and wife Martie; nieces, Deborah Schroeder, Cheryl Randolph, Sarah Walker and Amy Price; and a host of loving great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel H. Jones Sr. and Sallie Mae Petty Jones; and a sister, Belinda Kay Jones Bruner. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the McClure Funeral Service in Graham by the Rev. Rowen Grant, with visitation following the service.
