Samuel "Sam" Sidney Anderson

October 29, 1916 — July 9, 2014

BURLINGTON - Mr. Samuel Sidney "Sam" Anderson, 97, of Haw River, N.C., passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Burlington. A native of Alamance County, N.C., he was the son of the late Henry and Onie Pearl Allison Anderson. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation with 35 years of service and a retired volunteer fireman with Pleasant Grove Fire Department. He was a member of the Bingham Lodge #272 of Mebane, a 32nd degree Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite of Greensboro. He enjoyed cooking BBQ, landscaping, growing roses and traveling the world. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Marie Dickey and husband Glendale of Burlington; son, Wesley F. Anderson and wife Melba of Haw River; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Faye Webster Anderson; son, William H. Anderson; grandson, Samuel Colby Ray; sisters, Arettia Lawrence, Mary Small and Lucille Anderson; brothers, H.C. Anderson, Richard Anderson, and James Anderson. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at The Lamb's Chapel in Haw River with the Rev. James L. Rosser officiating. Burial will follow in Long's Chapel Christian Church cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday at The Lamb's Chapel and at other times at the home. The Bingham Lodge #272 AF & AM will open at 1 p.m. Sunday for Emergent Communication. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC, 27215.
