Sara Miesner, 89, of Mebane, went home to be with Jesus on July 17, 2023.
Born in Quincy, Illinois, Sara then moved with her family to Springfield where she attended grade school. Her family then moved to Morton, Illinois when she was in high school. She was married for 68 years to the love of her life, Wendell Miesner, and they had four children together. They moved to Mebane, NC in 1985 where they had lived ever since.
Sara loved life and always had many friends. Always an artist, she learned to tole paint and gave lessons in her home, eventually teaching what seemed to be the whole town of Morton to tole paint! When her children were school age, Sara went back to school to obtain her nursing degree. She worked as a nurse in many venues – office, hospital, assisted living, and finally retired from an insurance company. During this time, she enjoyed her family, keeping some of her grandchildren as babies, and watching them after school when they remembered her taking them for nature walks. Sara and Wendell enjoyed hosting family gatherings and loved their annual beach trips with the family. Sara also cared for her mother and mother-in-law during their last days.
During her lifetime, Sara was active in the church, most recently at Mebane United Methodist Church, where she attended the Upper Room Sunday School class and was active in the women’s circles, serving for a time as circle leader. She had become an expert porcelain painter and was a member of the Porcelain Painters International On-line and the local China Painters Guild. She painted countless pieces of china in her shop, gave lessons, and brought joy through her painting. Sara was also an avid gardener and was a member of Emma Harris Garden Club.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband Wendell Miesner, her parents J. Maxwell Robison and Ethel Dapper Robison, her sister Barbara Schwartzentraub, and her son Ricky Allen Miesner. She leaves behind her children Barbara (Tim) Buikema, Nancy (Mike) Graves, Bradley (Pat) Miesner; and grandchildren Joshua (Martha) Buikema, Jacki Buikema, Max (Amanda) Graves, Amanda (Caleb) Rice, Chelsea (Mike) Newsholme; and seven great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A combined memorial service for both Sara and Wendell will be held at Mebane United Methodist Church, Mebane on Saturday, August 5 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Mebane United Methodist Church, 200 S. Fourth Street, Mebane, NC 27302; or Authoracare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road. Burlington, NC 27215.
