Sara Williams, who was lovingly known by many as “Aunt Sara,” went Home to meet her Heavenly Father, on June 27, 2026, at the age of 80.
She was born on November 5, 1945, to Henry and Julia Lefler, who preceded her in death, and she grew up with the values of hard work, compassion, and love for others that would guide her throughout her life. Sara was also preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Spoon and Howard J. Williams; her son, Joseph Daniel Spoon; and her sister, Ruby Clark.
Sara is survived by her son, Glenn Spoon, and his wife, Laura, as well as her soon to be grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Rumley; her brother, James Lefler; her nephews, Mike and William Lefler; and her niece, Briana Orr. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she held a special place in theirs.
Sara spent many years working at Subway in Mebane, where she retired after a career marked by dedication and genuine care for others. She loved her customers and took great pride in serving generations of families. For Sara, her work was never just a job. It was an opportunity to greet people warmly, remember their stories, and make each person feel welcome. Her kindness and familiar smile made her a beloved presence in the community, and many will remember her not only for the meals she prepared, but for the friendship and comfort she offered so freely.
Her life was also deeply rooted in her faith. Sara was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church and found great joy in helping her church in any way she could. She was a true people person who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Whether through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or simply being present when someone needed her, Sara lived her faith through action. Her generosity of spirit and willingness to serve left a lasting impression on all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Faith Baptist Church in Mebane. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 1pm-2pm prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
