Scott Lee Sankey, 58, of Haw River, went home to be with Jesus on April 9, 2020.
Born and raised in Britt, Iowa, Scott graduated from (then) Britt High School and went on to study at Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he earned his degree in Theater and Communications. He moved to Chapel Hill in 1984, and worked for almost 20 years as one of two lead painters for Jack Sanders Paint Company. He then worked for Boar's Head Distributing of out Durham for three years before becoming the painter at The Carolina Inn in July 2011, where he was employed at the time of his passing. He made numerous friends along the way, with his gentle demeanor, kindness, and willingness to help others.
In 1993 he met Lisa Connelly (nee Landers) when she moved in as a housemate. They became fast friends, soon started dating and were married on March 28, 1997. They enjoyed raising their dogs, going to NASCAR races, auctions, and especially watching his beloved Carolina Tarheels Basketball team.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Joyce Sankey, and siblings Stephen and Elizabeth Sankey. He leaves behind his beloved wife Lisa, of the home, stepdaughter Kerri Smith (Connelly); brothers Joel of Britt, IA; Greg of Clear Lake, IA, Brian and wife Alana of Waterloo, IA, and his sister Sondra and her husband David Lampe of Britt, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, In-laws, and many dear friends and colleagues. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
At this time, a small memorial service will be held on Tuesday April 14 at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane. A memorial service for all will be planned at a later time (May or June) when his family and friends from out of state (and in-state) are able (allowed) to fly and gather.
Memorial contributions are welcome at a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to P O Box 3, Mebane, NC 27302.
