Sgt. Richard Eugene Gary, US Army, Ret. 47, of Sanford, NC passed away on March 25, 2023 at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Richard was born on September 15, 1975 to the late Robert Eugene and Linda Gustin Gary. He was raised in Sodus, NY and was a graduate of Wayne Central High School. Richard was a proud veteran of the US Army, retiring as Sergeant with 22 years of service to his country. During his time in the Army, Richard served in combat roles in 1996 in Kosovo, Ground Zero in New York in 2001, Iraq in 2006, and Kuwait in 2010. Richard loved his country. He was currently working with Premier Power of Southern Pines which he thought of as his second family and always grateful for the love shown by Chris Rhule and Lisa Elliot and his co-workers. Richard was a Kohler Generator Specialist which was a trait he learned in the Army. Richard loved the outdoors, especially when he went hunting with his buddy Chad Solomon. Richard was a very determined person who loved the Lord and was of the Christian Faith and will forever be known for being a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, son-in- law, and friend to everyone. Survivors include his loving wife, Jessica Flake Gary; his children, Ian Gary and Karsyn Gary; his loving rescue dog, Remington; his sister, Brenda Gary Pinson; niece and nephew, Ava and Maddox Pinson; his in-laws, Jerry and Penny Flake; God parents to his daughter Karsyn, Taylor and Steven Pursley; his special friends, Chad Solomon, Eric Solomon, and Kevin Stanley; and many other loving aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of Ian, Evelyn Gary. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday March 31, 2023 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane, NC with the Pastor Ronnie Bradford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
