Sharon Dean Ellington Elgin, 78, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Sharon was born on January 3, 1948, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and grew up in Burlington, North Carolina, where she graduated from Williams High School. She later attended Elon University, beginning a lifelong pattern of curiosity, creativity, and dedication to the people around her.
Over the years, Sharon built a diverse and meaningful career. She worked as a Parts Specialist at National Cash Register, served as a business manager for several home health agencies, and ultimately retired from Honda Power Equipment, where she contributed her talents to the human resources department. In every role, she was known for her reliability, her kindness, and her ability to make others feel supported.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Rayburn Pascal (RP) Ellington and Catherine Stribling Ellington, her siblings Ray Ellington and Cathy Ellington Vance, and her husband, Roy Hill Elgin, who passed away in 2016.
She is survived by her son, Richard Guy Elgin, and his wife, Cheryl Perault Elgin, along with their daughters: Jordan Elgin and her husband Bucky Rape, and their son Baker; Bailey Elgin and her daughter Addey; and Olivia Elgin. Sharon is also survived by her daughter, Cameron Dean Elgin, and her son Jacob Scott. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her love into each generation.
In retirement, Sharon embraced her artistic spirit. She created original stained glass pieces and hand-built pottery, crafting each item with care and giving them freely to the people she loved. Her art became an extension of her generosity—colorful, thoughtful, and unmistakably hers. She also devoted many years of service to the Alamance Kennel Club, where she served faithfully as treasurer.
The family will receive guests on Friday, April 10th, from 5–7 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. A funeral service honoring Sharon’s life will be held the following day, Saturday, April 11th, at 1 p.m., also at McClure Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Samaritan's Purse by going to their home page and searching for her memorial page.
Sharon’s life was defined by quiet strength, creativity, and devotion to family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and kindness that will continue to shine through the lives of those who knew her.
