Shelba Young Yates

Mrs. Shelba Young Yates, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at her residence after a couple months of declining health. She was born in Orange County, April 3, 1938, to Luchen and Nellie Young who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Billy Watts Yates. She is survived by her children Billie Jean Rimmer (Eddie), Tammy Yates, Russell Yates (Melody), and Doug Yates (Kim); grandchildren Shannon Bailey (Jamie), Travis Rimmer, Morgan Yates, Justice Yates, Lindsey Yates, Hunter Gwynn, Caleb Gwynn, and one great grandchild Peyton Bailey; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Harold Young, Jack Young, George “Buck” Young, and Paul Young. She was a lifetime member of Efland United Methodist Church where she was involved in lots of activities. She was a member of the Efland Rescue Auxiliary, Efland Ruritanettes, and the Efland Fire Department Auxiliary. She worked at Efland Hosiery Mill and Missy’s Grill. She was a great cook, loved helping others, and enjoyed making desserts for functions, friends and was known for the best apple pies. She enjoyed lots of jokes and laughter. Wherever she was, there was definitely going to be laughter involved. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people that volunteered to stay with her, and for all the friends and family that visited with her, and for all the prayers. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Efland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ken McLean and the Rev. Cindy Lister with the burial to follow in the Efland Methodist Church Cemetery on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1 pm. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm at McClure Funeral & Cremation Service in Mebane on Friday, December 12, 2014 and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alamance-Caswell Hospice, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
