Shelia Hughes Hagood, affectionately known as Bonnie by those who knew her best, passed away peacefully at her residence on June 30, 2025. Born on December 2, 1954, in Alamance County, NC, Bonnie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family. Bonnie's journey through life was marked by her compassionate spirit and her enduring love for her husband, Herbert Dale Hagood. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories. She was a beacon of love and strength for her daughters, Tracy Hagood Willard and Brandy Hagood, and her son, Joshua Dale Hagood, and his wife, Esmeralda. Bonnie's legacy continues through the lives of her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life and the reasons for her ever-present smile. She is survived by her sister, Kathy Bruce and her husband Paul, and her brother Butch Hughes and his wife Patsy. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard M. Hughes and Orene Elizabeth Flack Doby, and her sisters, Linda Leary, Susan McMinn, and Carol Bolden. Bonnie's professional life was spent in the textile industry, where she retired as an office supervisor. Her work ethic and leadership were admired by her colleagues, and her influence extended beyond her professional role through her active involvement in various associations. A devout Christian, Bonnie was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, Caswell Ward. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she cherished her church family deeply. Bonnie's interests were a reflection of her love for her family and her faith. She found joy in simple pleasures like solving puzzles, playing games, and indulging in her favorite Bazooka Bubble Gum. Bonnie's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and service. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to Bonnie, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday July 3, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ Ladder-Day Saints, Caswell Ward with the family receiving friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the Church. A private family burial will follow. The family will receive friends other times at the residence of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church Missionary Fund at 1401 Rascoe Dameron Rd. Burlington, NC 27217.
