Shirley Jean Holt 86, of Graham, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in her native Alamance County, North Carolina, where she was born on July 4, 1939, to the late Hanly Philip Holt and Mary Cheek Holt. Shirley's life was marked by her dedication to her family, her passion for education, and her unwavering faith. A graduate of East Carolina University, Shirley was a proud member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, an affiliation that reflected her commitment to community and lifelong friendships. After college, she embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator, teaching business classes in Maryland and later at Southern Alamance High School. Her influence on her students was profound and lasting, as she not only imparted knowledge but also inspired confidence and ambition. Shirley's professional journey continued at V.B. Splawn Belting, where she dedicated 34 years of service before retiring. Her work ethic and collaborative spirit made her a respected figure among her colleagues and within the industry. A devout Christian, Shirley was a faithful member of New Covenant Fellowship Church in Graham. Her religion was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and providing comfort and strength throughout her years. Shirley's zest for life was evident in her love for the outdoors. She found joy in fishing and playing golf, often accompanied by her loving brother, Clinton Holt. Her competitive spirit, which she displayed on the golf course, also shone brightly in her younger years when she played and coached softball, a testament to her leadership and athletic prowess. Family was the heart of Shirley's world. She is survived by her devoted brother, Clinton Holt, and his wife, Cynthia; her dear aunt, Wilma Cheek; her beloved niece and nephew, Tate Philip Holt and Tina Holt Brannock, along with Tina's husband, Jay; and her adored great-nieces, Caroline Ava Brannock and Collins Rose Brannock. Each family member benefited from Shirley's love, wisdom, and generous spirit. Shirley's legacy is one of love, service, and faith. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her, and her impact will continue to be felt by the many lives she touched. As we bid farewell to Shirley Jean Holt, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that has undoubtedly found its eternal peace. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her, and her stories will be recounted with smiles and admiration for generations to come.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday March 4, 2026, at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with Pastor David Neff officiating. A private burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Covenant Fellowship Church at 1913 Rogers Rd. Graham, NC 27253 or to AuthoraCare Hospice at 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
