Shirley Ragle

August 28, 1936 — July 2, 2025

Burlington

Shirley Ragle, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on August 28, 1936, to the late John and Rosa Stadler, Shirley's life was a testament to the power of kindness, faith, and family.

Shirley's journey through life was shared with her devoted husband of 57 years, Rev. John Ragle. Together, they built a legacy of love and commitment that was evident to all who knew them. She was a cherished mother to her son, Roger Overman, and daughter, Donna Hughes, married to Jerry. Her role as a grandmother was one of her most treasured, as she poured her heart into the lives of her granddaughters, Nikki Shelton and her husband Cort and Crystal Overman, and her grandson, Jeremy Lyons. Shirley's joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Markham, Brandi Markham, Jaxson Lyons, Carter Shelton, Landon Shelton, Serenity Overman and Ethan Markham, who brought her immeasurable happiness.

Shirley's life was marked by the loss of her beloved sons, Douglas Overman and Gary Overman, as well as her grandson, Brandon Markham. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert, Raleigh, Bobby, and John Stadler, and sisters, Doris Anthony, Lucille Caulder, and Mozelle Randleman. Despite these sorrows, Shirley's resilient spirit and unwavering faith carried her through, leaving a legacy of strength and grace.

For 19 years, Shirley dedicated her professional life to Glen Raven Mills, where she was not only a valued employee but also a friend to many. Her work ethic and positive attitude were an inspiration to her colleagues.

Shirley's interests were a reflection of her love for life and the people in it. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always finding joy in the time spent with her grandchildren. Her passion for travel often led her to the serene landscapes of the Smokey Mountains, a place where she found peace and rejuvenation. Shirley's love for her church, Pilgrim's Chapel, was profound. She was an active member of the church community, and her voice was a staple in the Rest Home Ministry, where she enjoyed singing and uplifting the spirits of others.
