Shirley Skenes

Mrs. Shirley Frances Skenes, 69, of Burlington, NC passed away on Tuesday October 27, 2020 at the Hospice Home in Burlington. A native of Alamance County, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Fisher Skenes Jr. and Aline Boley Skenes. Shirley was a beloved member of her community and a longtime member of Vickers Memorial Baptist Church. Shirley spent most of her work life managing and supervising various oil companies’ operations in the area. Shirley was a woman of many talents, she was known for her great stories, her colorful demeanor, and her many years as a singer in her band Shirley & The Carolina Cowboys. Shirley had a place in her heart for each of these things, but none surpassed the love she had for her family. Survivors include her daughter, Rhiana Skenes, granddaughter, Hailey Gomiller, sister, Marie Terrell (Harvey), sister, Dianne Skenes Collins (Bill), and dear family friend, Karen Sprinkle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Terrie Skenes Iniguez, and brother, John Fisher Skenes III. McClure Funeral Service in Graham is assisting the family.
