Shirley Tapp Wynn, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on November 24, 1934, in Orange County, North Carolina, Shirley's life was a testament to the strength and warmth of her spirit. Shirley was the only child of Sam and Betty Pickard Tapp. She married her husband of 64 years, Walter Tyson Wynn Sr., in 1957.
Shirley's family include her children, Walter Tyson “Ty” Wynn Jr. and his wife Susan, Julie W. Snead and Joseph Reid “Joe” Wynn. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Maegan Golden (Dave Melnick), Charlie “Chuck” Snead (Jade Newton), Autumn Snead Joyce and her husband Stephen, and Caitlin Wynn (Nick Davis). Shirley also enjoyed her great-grandchildren: Kennedy Joyce, Samuel Golden, Kyndall and Kameron Joyce, and Karlie Ann Joyce. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Wynn. Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an exceptional cook who took pleasure in preparing meals for her family. She also enjoyed preserving produce grown in her garden, and she was an excellent seamstress.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. Her commitment to her faith community was a reflection of her belief in service and fellowship.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 in the McClure Funeral Chapel in Mebane with Pastor Rich Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 10am-11am. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
