Stephen Martin

Stephen Taylor Martin passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  Stephen was born on September 9, 1949 to Winfrey Thomas Martin, Jr. and Irene Taylor Martin, both of whom predeceased him.  He grew up in Burlington, and graduated from Williams High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

For most of his adult life Stephen was a Certified Public Accountant, who eventually retired as an auditor with the State of North Carolina.  His biggest interests outside of work were traveling, spending time with family, and following his beloved Tar Heels.  He was a long tenured member of the Rams Club, and could often be found watching or listening to Tar Heel sporting events.

Stephen and his wife, Mary Candace Martin, perished in the same automobile collision.  He is survived by his sons, Winfrey Thomas Martin, III and wife, Angela, and Christian Debnam Martin and wife, Heather.  His grandchildren are William and Melina Martin and Franklin Martin.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Graham by Rev. Kevin Baker.  Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday May, 10, 2019.  In lieu of memorial gifts or flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Educational Foundation, PO Box 2446, Chapel Hill, NC 27515.  Online condolences may be sent to www.mcclurefuneralservice.net
