Steve Laurel Jordan Sr.

May 31, 1955 — October 11, 2022

Graham

Steve Laurel Jordan, Sr. was born on May 31st, 1955 and he returned home to his heavenly father on October 11th, 2022. Steve was the first of two sons to be born to Alberta “Wilson” Foster and LH “George “Jordan. They were overjoyed when he was born. At age five when his younger brother Jimmy was born, Steve met his best friend for life. They had a rare, special relationship, more than typical brothers or friends. They were two halves of a whole. One of his favorite childhood memories was of his pony Pilot that threw him off every time he tried to ride him. His strong work ethic began at age 14-years-old when Steve started working at his first job at the Fleetwood motel restaurant. Oddly enough, his favorite band was Fleetwood Mac. He also worked as a mechanic prior to beginning his career as a long distance truck driver. He drove to every state but North Dakota and he drove to Canada on several occasions during his trucking years. While he was out on the road a lot, he took every chance he had to spend time with his family when he was home. Along with trucking, Steve had a passion for cars. He had many cars over the years that he really enjoyed. He would save his money to buy cars and fix them up. His favorite car he ever had was a blue 1966 Chevy II. He actually started a car club on Main St. to share his love of cool cars with others. He was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan throughout his racing career. At age 27, Steve and Robin met while they both were visiting with their mothers. Robin’s mother, Betty, was a care provider for Steve’s mother, Wilson. Robin had stopped by to show Betty the “Gone with the Wind Style dress” she had rented for a Halloween party. Steve loved to tell the story of how once he saw Robin in “that green dress “, the rest was history and a 40-year love story began. They went on to welcome four beautiful children, between 1986-1998; Jessica, Stevie, Kaitlin, and Hannah. Steve had two beautiful grandchildren, Charlotte and Teddy, that he absolutely adored. Steve loved his family more than anything else, in fact, during every holiday dinner or birthday party, he sat in “his chair” and said just that, “I love my family!”, with a huge grin. Steve never met a stranger. He loved people for who they were and could make a friend anywhere he went. He showed kindness to all he met whether it was by bringing folks he had just met a thanksgiving dinner plate or actually bringing a stranger home to dinner. Throughout his life, Steve faced many challenges with his health. After his diagnosis of Pulmonary Fibrosis in September 2020, The Dream Foundation gifted Steve a lifelong wish to drive cross country one more time. He, Robin, and Jimmy traveled across the country to Las Vegas and back, in his dream vehicle, a brand new black Chevy Tahoe. He saw many of his favorite stops and memories from his truck driving days. He reminisced about this trip throughout the last two years. Even as his health declined, he never lost his will to live or his great love for his family. He bravely fought every battle he had ever faced with until the very end. While we are heartbroken to lose our wonderful husband, father, brother, paw paw, and friend, we know that he is no longer suffering and is at peace. He has finally reunited with his beloved daughter, Jessica, his parents, and his shih tzu, Savannah. We know that they welcomed him with arms wide open into the beauty of heaven. Steve is survived by his wife of 38 years, Robin Jordan, son Steve Jordan Jr. (Aaron Cardwell), daughter Kaitlin Mitchell (Walter Mitchell), daughter Hannah Jordan (William Seawell), granddaughter Charlotte Moorefield, grandson Theodore Mitchell, and his brother James Jordan. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Alberta and Laurel Jordan, and his daughter, Jessica Jordan. Steve considered his medical providers to be his friends and we would like to thank Dr. C. Laura Gonzalez and Margie, Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Tejan-Sie, his nursing staff and Carolyn, Dr. Sarath Kolluru and his staff, Dr. William Ryan and Dale, Dr. Shaukat Khan, all of the staff at Walgreens of Graham, The Dream Foundation, and the staff at Hospice AuthoraCare of Burlington, NC. Steve’s visitation will be at 12pm on October 17th, 2022 at McClure Funeral Service in Graham. The funeral, officiated by Rev. Jesse Baker and Rev. Lee Edwards, will immediately follow at 1pm in McClure’s chapel, with graveside service at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.
