Steven Richard Cates

Steven Richard Cates, beloved son of the late Richard and Mary Cates, passed away on March 30, 2026.  He spent his life working in food service and retired from Liberty Commons in Burlington, NC.

Steven was a devoted fan of North Carolina Tar Heels Basketball, rarely missing a game and always cheering them on with passion. He also had a deep love for professional wrestling, finding joy and excitement in following his favorite matches and personalities over the years.

A faithful member of Community Baptist Church, Steven valued his church family and the sense of community and fellowship it brought to his life. He especially cherished his trips back home to Tennessee, where he spent meaningful time reconnecting with loved ones and revisiting fond memories.

Steven is survived by his nephews, Glenn Cates (Brandy) and Toby Cates (Wendy), along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Turner, and his brother, Alan Cates.

Steven will be remembered for his loyalty to those he loved, his enthusiasm for the things that brought him joy, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him.
