Susan Hooks Aycock died peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2014 in Hendersonville, N.C. She was born on March 15, 1930 in Fremont NC and was a longtime resident of Mebane N.C. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. William G. Aycock. She attended Fremont High School (Class of 1948) and graduated from Woman’s College (now UNC-Greensboro) with a BS degree in Home Economics Education (Class of 1952). She taught at Middlesex High School before her marriage. Susan married her hometown sweetheart, Bill, on July 10th, 1954 and together they moved to Mebane where they lived for many wonderful years. Susan found great happiness in being a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to sew, shop with her four daughters, read, walk and play bridge with her husband and longtime “Bridge Club” friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mebane, the Alamance County Medical Auxiliary and the Mebane Garden Club.
Susan is survived by her brother, William Oscar Hooks (Cecille), daughters, Nancy O’Hanlon, Arlene Riley (Roy) and Stephanie Reece (Jimmy); six grandchildren, Ben Biles, Lauren Biles, Caitlin O’Hanlon, Conor O’Hanlon, Stephen Baker, Kristin Baker, Anna Reece, Ryan Reece and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, William and Edith Matthews Hooks , her sister, Judy Hooks Dorsey and her daughter, Patricia Aycock Baker.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 pm Saturday, September 27th at McClure Funeral and Cremation Service 1308 South Third Street, Mebane, NC. Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Mebane at 2pm on Sunday, September 28th with Dr. Terry Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane.
