Susan Princelle Daniels Swift passed away on November 11, 2023, at Duke University Hospital. She was born on December 29, 1940 in Maywood, IL to her parents; Marjorie and Richard Daniels. She had five siblings. Sue has joined the oldest, Pat and the youngest, Dick, as well as her parents, in Heaven, and she he is survived by her sisters Pam, Ginger, and Ellen. Sue’s Father was a high school English teacher. In 1946, he collaborated with another colleague to buy land in Nisswa, Minnesota on Lower Cullen Lake. Over the next 7 years they proceeded to build 2 log cabins; one for each family. They spent each Summer developing the cabins and getting acquainted with the loons. Sue would learn to become lifelong friends with those Loons. Following High School graduation , both Sue and her sister Pat attended Lawrence College in Appleton, WI. In 1962, upon graduation, Sue married Gilbert Swift, who had been roommates with Pat’s then husband Rogelio Llerandi. Together, Sue and Gil raised 3 children, Sarah, Daniel (Kris), and Sandra (David). Each one provided Sue and Gil with 2 wonderful grandchildren; Sam, Katie, Noah, Jonathan, Mykah, and Jaryn. Being a Grandma soon became a focal point of Sue’s life. In September 2009 Sue was diagnosed with Lymphoma ( cancer ) which would eventually take her to Heaven. Sue and Gil moved to North Carolina so she could be treated at the Duke Cancer Center. She received wonderful care there for 14 years. The doctors and nurses became special to Sue as they displayed tender, loving care. We thank them for giving us fourteen more years of memories. Sue loved working in her garden, caring for her flowers that decorated life wherever she and Gil lived. She also enjoyed her time in ministry at Mebane Presbyterian Church. She was also an active member of her PEO chapter in Burlington, NC as well as Indianapolis, IN, where she first became a member. Sue always loved children! This was especially reflected throughout many years of teaching both middle schoolers and third graders at Jefferson Elementary School, in Appleton. Her love for children also reached across borders to South America. She and Gil adopted children from Compassion International for many years and have kept in touch with each one. This ministry was near and dear to Sue’s heart. For this reason we request, In lieu of flowers, please donate to this beloved charity. You may make checks payable to Gil Swift and write: “In Sue’s Memory” on the memo line. A service to celebrate Sue's life will be held at 2pm on January 5, 2024 at Mebane Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
