Susan J. Moorehead

Mrs. Susan Justice Moorehead, 66, of Mebane, NC, passed away on Saturday December 2, 2017 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. A native of Kingsport, TN, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Nelson and Gertrude Cable Justice. She was the owner and operator of Brookridge Kennels and served as a Past President of both the Alamance Kennel Club and the Carolina Australian Shepherd Club where she still held a membership. She also was a proud member of the Australian Shepherd Club of America. Susan served as a Senior Breeder Judge for Australian Shepherds judging in Germany and various locations in the US. Susan was also a founding member of the Scotland County North Carolina Humane Society in Laurinburg, NC. For the past 13 years her devotion and care was given to her paralyzed son Mitch where she was always taking him to various meetings, events and valor games. She was a supporter and volunteer with Bridge II Sports which Mitch loved dearly being involved with wheelchair games and other activities. She had received a lifetime membership with the Marine Corps League (Alan D. Lam) Detachment 1209, of Burlington, NC where she always looked forward to taking her son Mitch to his meetings and she did volunteer work for the group. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Her joy and love was her granddaughter Gabbie, which she cherished her time with so dearly. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Reggie Lee Moorehead, of the home; sons, Mitchell Lee “Mitch” Moorehead, of the home and Matthew L. “Matt” Moorehead and wife Erin, of Burlington; her loving granddaughter, Gabriella Moorehead, of Burlington and many other loving cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving Aunt, Florence Nelson. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday December 8, 2017 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastor Tom Warren officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son Matt in Burlington, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance/Caswell at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Australian Shepherd Health and Genetics, INC. at 1338 Trouville, Ave. Grover Beach, CA 93433.
