Taylor Rae Phelps

February 8, 1953 – February 28, 2025

Taylor Rae Phelps, 72, of Hillsborough, N.C., formerly from Portsmouth VA, passed away February 28, 2025 at home with her beloved brother Brian and his wife.

Taylor was born February 8, 1953, to the late Clinton T. and Gladys Rountree Phelps.  She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Michael Andrade.

Taylor is survived by her sister Sydney Andrade of Virginia Beach, Va and her brother Brian T Phelps (wife Sandy Wood Phelps) of Hillsborough NC, niece Lyndsay Hamby, nephews Brian Liebler (wife Caitlin), Matthew Liebler (wife Julie) Blair Phelps and Brad Riley (wife Kaci), many great nieces and nephews and her beloved Kitty Charles Raymond Phelps.

Taylor taught school in the Virgina Public Schools for more than 30 years.  She was loved by her students and colleagues alike.  At the young age of 52 Parkinson’s disease stole Taylor’s ability to continue to teach publicly but she continued to help students by tutoring from her home.  She was a loving, giving kind person that gave generously to every charity that crossed her path.  Her last great gift was donating her brain to the University of Miami for Parkinson’s research so that her battle could possible help someone else with the disease.

On Sunday March 2, 2025, Taylor was celebrated with a Memorial Service at the Hillsborough Wesleyan Church that can be viewed on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/12BXmrzjXiH/

Taylor’s family will be taking her back to Virginia to her final resting place with her parents.  There will be a graveside service on March 15, 2025, at 2pm at Holland Cemetery in Suffolk Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, consider donating to one of Taylor’s many charities.  ST Jude’s Children’s Hospital, SPCA, Tunnel to Tower, Disabled Vets and of course Parkinson’s research.
