Terry Lee Williams

Terry Lee Williams, 59, of Mebane NC, died December 14th, 2020 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Born January 12th, 1961 in Alamance County, he was the son of Thomas Anderson and Pearl Moore Williams, who preceded him in death.

He was a resident of Orange County, NC and attended Orange County Schools.

Terry is survived by wife, Wendy Gammon Williams and daughter, Summer Lee Williams.  He is also survived by two brothers, Charlie Martin of Haw River and Odie Martin of Mebane: and by two sisters, Jeanette Jones of Burlington and Rita F. Taylor of Deatsville, AL.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Thomas Williams. In 1978, Terry began work at Elon College in the Grounds Department. He continued to work there for the next 26 years.  He became a meticulous landscaper and took great pride in his work.  He finished out his career at Elon working on the Sports Turf side of Elon Landscaping and used his precise working nature to produce perfectly straight painted lines for the sports fields. His contribution to Elon was much more than his work.  He had the ability to make everyone who stopped to talk to him in passing, walk away with a smile or a laugh.  His spirited personality won him the unofficial title of “Mr. Elon.”

While working at Elon, Terry met Wendy Gammon Williams.  They married March 20, 1997 and went on to spend 23 years of life’s ups and downs together, laughing along the way.  His greatest gift to the world is his daughter Summer Lee Williams who now attends Elon as a student.

Terry enjoyed spending time on his porch feeding and watching the many birds and wild animals that enjoyed the use of his property.  He was a gentle spirit that will be truly missed.

A private  memorial service for Mr. Williams will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday December 19, 2020 in the chapel of McClure Funeral Home in Mebane. Pastor Jim Florence will preside.
