Thomas "Tommy" Eugene Evans

Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Evans, 78, of Mebane, died November 8, 2016 at his home following a period of declining health. Born September 27, 1938 in Alamance County, Tommy was the son of Lonnie Weldon Evans and Ruby Prather Evans. A “die hard” Marine, he served our country from 1956 – 1962, stationed at Camp Lejeune. Tommy was a former Scout Master, Order of the Arrow, and also a Scout advisor. He enjoyed working with the youth, having taught them in Sunday School at Mebane United Methodist Church. He was a retired paint and paper contractor. Survivors include his wife, Ophelia Holt Evans; daughter, Lynn Evans Phillips of Greensboro; son and daughter in law, Gene and Katy Evans of Treasure Island, FL; brother and sister in law, Lonnie Weldon Evans, Jr and Susan, of Atlanta; nieces, Natalie and Ali; canine companion “Rags”; the love of his life, his grand-dog Nestley; and beloved caregivers Tifney Justice and Kayla Turner. A celebration of Tommy Evans’ life will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, November11, 2016 at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane, with Pastor Rick Webster presiding.
