Mr. Thomas Richard Placer, 66, of Reidsville, NC passed away at Wesley Long Hospital on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Mr. Placer was born in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Richard George Placer and Yvonne Hoffman Placer.
Thomas married his high school sweetheart, Kathy, at 18 years old in New Jersey. Thomas and his family moved to NC in 1978 to work for Placer Trucking. Over the next thirteen years he and Kathy traveled all over the country. Along with his love for driving big trucks, he also had a passion for old Ford trucks. This led him & Kathy to start Flashback F-100’s. His passion for trucks didn’t stop in the business world, he was a member of several truck clubs all over the country. Throughout the year he would attend several swap meets and truck shows. At the shows, Flashback F-100’s would participate as a vendor and often Mr. Placer would enter his own trucks into the shows.
Mr. Placer is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Kathy Backus Placer, children, Richard Thomas Placer (Desera), Sandra Placer Callahan (J.J.), Heather Placer Mull (Ryder), and grandchildren, Cody Placer, Logan Placer, Gavin Placer, Hayden Placer, Chandlier Placer, Savannah Callahan, Peyton Callahan, and Alyssa Brame.
A funeral service will be held at McClure Funeral Service on Saturday, February 19th, 2022, beginning at 2:00PM, with Reverend Walter Jones officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service for the family to receive friends and they will be available at other times at the residence of Sandra Callahan. Burial will follow the services at Graham Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Thomas’s name to the American Lung Association
