Rev. Uston Radford Mckenzie, Sr.

Rev. Uston Radford McKenzie, Sr., 82, of Burlington passed away Monday, June 23, 2025 at Hospice House in Burlington. Uston was born in Dillon County, SC to Radford Howard McKenzie and Nellie Cottingham McKenzie both deceased. Uston was retired from Tower Hosiery Mill as a fixer and was a pastor for 49 years. He pastored Pilgrim Baptist Church for 31 years. He was truly  a inspiration and a great example of what a Christian should be. He had a passion for saving lost souls. Some people called him the mean old preacher but that was because he was speaking the truth and they didn’t want to hear it.

Uston is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zetta Payne McKenzie. Son, Uston Radford McKenzie, Jr. and spouse Jackie and daughter, Virginia Suzanne Makin and her spouse Jason. Grandchildren, Syvanna Smith and spouse Brandon, Brooke Makin and great granddaughter, Avery Blair Smith. Sister, Shirley Hayes. In addition to his parents Uston was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Levi McKenzie and a brother, Dalton McKenzie.

A funeral service will be on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Loy and Rev. Jack Robertson. Burial will follow in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon until 1:00 PM prior to the service.
