“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Dr. Walter O. Fonville, II “Wally” went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Wally was born on August 21, 1945 to Walter O. Fonville Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Stratford Fonville, both deceased. Wally followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from college. He had a long and fulfilling career with the Navy, retiring in 1995. While enlisted in the Navy Reserves, he also had careers and retired from AT&T and ITT. In his retirement years, he was certified and worked as a substitute teacher. His greatest joy was found in his faith and relationship with the Lord. He also served as a pastor, deacon and counselor over the years and countless other capacities within the church. He especially loved working with children and youth groups, attending numerous camps and helping with after school programs. Wally always had a way with speaking kind words of wisdom and encouragement. He truly had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help anyone that needed it, in any way that he possibly could. It was an honor to know him and a blessing to call him friend. He loved working outside, tinkering on various things in the shop or on the farm. He loved taking his grandchildren for tractor or mower rides and when they outgrew that, he followed them to the ball field or gym. His dog Gracie brought him much joy and comfort in his later years.

In addition to his wife, Allene, Wally is survived by his children, Michael Blackstock (Maih), Leah F. Wilhelm (Matt) and Samantha B. Lauck (Ben); eight grandchildren, Bradley Lauck, Austin Blackstock, Steele McBride, Bryce Lauck, Jordan Blackstock, Lincoln Smith, Magnolia Wilhelm and Madysann Blackstock; brothers, Fred Fonville (JoAnna) and Bill Fonville (Jill); numerous nieces and nephews.
