William Hunter

June 29, 1939 — January 22, 2018

Mr. William Paul Hunter Sr. 78, of Mebane, passed away on Monday January 22, 2018 at Alamance Healthcare Center in Burlington. Born in Guildford County, NC, he was the son of the late William Lacy and Ruby Patterson Hunter. Paul was the owner and operator of Deluxe Barber Shop in Mebane operating from 1959 until 2017. He had cut generation after generations of families Hair in Mebane and was proud to say so. He graduated from Harris Barber College and was known as a Master Barber. On October 11, 2014 the day was named as “Paul Hunter Day” for all that he had done for the city he cared so much for. In 2015 he was inducted into the Mebane museum of Modern Makers which his family was so proud and honored by their father Paul. He was a member of Rock Creek AME Church where he loved to worship and praised the Lord. Paul would always looks after the people who looked after him, always helping folks that couldn’t get to the shop, he would travel to them to make sure they had a fresh shave and haircut. He was an avid Duke fan and his joy and love was his family, especially when it came to his grandchildren. Survivors include his daughter, Angela Hunter-Mebane, of Mebane; son, William Paul Hunter Jr. and wife Erica, of SC; grandchildren, Paul Lacy Hunter, Ashley N. Mebane, Taylor M. Mebane and Jordan Wilson-Hunter; great grandchildren, Adriana Hunter, Devon Hunter and Janiyah Hunter; sister in law, Glenda Williams; aunts, Nannie Patterson, Ava Mintz and Millie Kimes; and a special companion, Mazie Riley, of Mebane. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday January 27, 2018 at the Rock Creek AME Church with the Pastor Archie Evans officiating.
