Visitation with the family will be graveside at 1:00pm on Saturday November 21st at Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2pm. A public viewing will be available at McClure funeral home in Mebane from 3:30-5:00pm on Friday the 20th and on Saturday from 9:00am to noon prior to the funeral.
Andy was born in Mebane to the late Buck and Lena McPherson on April 27th, 1938. His brother, Harold, was born a year after him. He was a graduate of Alexander Wilson High School, served in the Army and then pursued a career in industrial heating and air conditioning. He married his high school sweetheart Mae Caviness and they recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary! Andy was the father of two children Bart (Dawn) McPherson and Beth (Jason) Tanner and the proud grandfather of Christian McPherson, Chase and Kayla Tanner.
Andy was a product of his generation and when something broke, he could fix it, he was never without a pocket knife – when asked if he had a knife to open a package, a letter or anything he would always smile and say, “I’ve got my pants on don’t I?”. Of course, he had a pocket knife on him. Andy was a marksman in the Army and even while in his 80’s he was able to shoot a dime (twice out of 5 shots) at 150 yards which gave him a Grand Master rating on the Team 22 shooting team. Andy raised his children camping across the US and continued RVing with Mae after retirement spending most winters in Florida where he had many friends.
Andy was a faithful servant of God. He loved family (his 3 Grandchildren were the joy of his life), his country and his many friends. There were too many wonderful stories to tell but they all included a smile, genuine love and a lot of laughter. He will be missed but never forgotten.
