Charlene Mebane Obituary

Star Tannery, Virginia. Charlene Robbins Mebane (85) passed away on Wednesday, June 26th 2019 after a brief illness.

Charlene was born in Nassawadox, Virginia on August 26th, 1933. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Giles Yancey Mebane, and her parents, Charles Willard Robbins Sr., and Roberta Elmo Morris Robbins.  

Charlene was a longtime resident of Mebane, and was a past member of Mebane Presbyterian Church, and a past president of the Gay Blades Garden Club. She was an accomplished artist in basketry, weaving, sketching, and photography. Her hobbies included, SCUBA diving, sewing, doll collecting and cooking. She met her late husband while working as a nurse at the Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond, Virginia. Together they raised a family and traveled the world. 

She is survived by her sister Roberta Ann Davis, and brother Charles Willard Robbins Jr. (Kim), her daughter Ann Yancey Mebane, with whom she was residing, her sons, William Giles Mebane (Kelly Gauldin), Michael Scott Mebane (Teresa), John (Tony) Anthony Mebane (Karen), nephews Malcolm Scott Davis,  Joshua Aaron Robbins, Zachary Micah Robbins, grandsons, John Yancey Crandell, Daniel Giles Mebane (Hannah), Jordan Yancey Mebane, Justin Michael Mebane, Matthew William Mebane, Logan Alexander Mebane, William Alexander Mebane, granddaughters Casey Mebane Buie (Sam), Emily Marie Mebane, and great granddaughter Louisa Mae Mebane.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane. Funeral services will be held at Mebane Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 2:00 PM by Dr. Jeff Smith.
