Delbert “Del” “Pete” “Red” Dean Lowery, aged 88, passed away on Monday April 19th, 2021. He was born October 16th, 1932 in El Dorado Arkansas to Jessie and Gladys Lowery and later became a lifelong resident of Mebane, NC. He was a beloved husband of 63 years to his wife Hilda Hoover Lowery and father to Jeffery, Ronald and Cheryl. Delbert served 4 years of active duty in the Navy and served as a Seabee for 20 years in the Navy reserves. After his military career he had a 37-year career at Lorillard Tobacco in Greensboro, NC where he retired in 1997. He was an accomplished electrician and faithful servant of the lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mebane, where he volunteered his time to the congregation and his community. He enjoyed fishing on a sunny day, golfing alongside his friends, and dedicating time to family. He was lovingly referred to as Papaw, a true Mr. Fix it for scabbed knees, a puzzle aficionado, and an avid reader of John Grisham novels. He was fearless, determined, and had a humor about life that all appreciated. 
Delbert was the second of eight children. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Lowery, grandson Jeffery Parker, brother Coy Lowery, brother Danny Lowery and his wife Elaine Lowery, brother in law Billy Harbor, brother in law Charles Vines, and brother in law Johnny Johnson. He is survived by wife Hilda Lowery, sister Norma Faye Sones (husband Bill Sones), sister La Verne Johnson, Tina Lowery (wife of Coy Lowery), sister Barbara Harbor, brother Billy Lowery (wife Jean Lowery), sister Paula Vines, son Ronald Lowery (wife Wynell Lowery), daughter Cheryl Parker (husband Barry Parker), grandchildren Brittney Lowery, Christopher Lowery, Faith Parker and Hope Parker as well as many loved nieces and nephews. 
The family will receive friends on Thursday April 22, 2021 from 5-7pm at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday April 23, 2021 in the McClure Funeral Chapel in Mebane. The burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
