Mrs. Flora Sykes Tate 90, of Graham, NC passed away on Wednesday October 27, 2021 at the Hospice Home in Burlington. A native of Alamance Co. NC she was the daughter of the late Cheatam Sykes Sr. and Ethel Brown Sykes and the wife of the late Maxie Tate Sr. Flora enjoyed being outside working in the yard, gardening and planting her flowers. She was a member of Historic Providence Christian Church where she kept the nursery for numerous years. Starting her career with Western Electric, she was retired from Lucent/AT&T with many years of service. Flora loved to travel with her family especially to the beach as she loved the salty air around her. Flora was a lady who was always looking after her family and she always cherished her time she spent with her sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Tate; sons, Dennis Tate and wife Song and John Tate and wife Becky; her grandchildren, Jonathan Tate, Mikayla Tate, Heather Tate and Anna Tate Hirose; her sisters, Joan Mayes and husband Don, and Frances Grinstead; a brother, Joe Sykes and wife Linda and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Maxie Tate Jr.; sister, Lucille Swithers and brothers, Cheatam Sykes Jr. and O’Neal Sykes. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday November 3, 2021 at the Historic Providence Christian Church with the Pastors Steve Janicello and Darryl Peebles officiating. Burial will follow alongside her late husband at Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Tuesday November 2, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham and other times at the residence of the family.
