Hilda Mooneyham Laughlin, known affectionately as Hilda to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at her residence on September 28, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on August 20, 1931, in Alamance County, NC, she was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Hilda's life was marked by her unwavering faith and her love for music. For 40 years, her melodious voice graced the Alamance Coral Group, bringing beauty and harmony to countless performances. Her devotion to her Christian faith was evident in her long-standing membership at the First Baptist Church of Haw River, where she also shared her vocal talents in the church choir. Family was the cornerstone of Hilda's life. She is survived by her loving daughters, Angela Shatterly and Lisa L. Crofoot, and son-in-law George W. Crofoot. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Lori Owens and husband Dave, Carrie Hawk and husband Mike, Cheryl Crumpton and husband Jimmy, Matthew Laughlin, and Johnathan Lindley and wife Erica. Hilda's joy was multiplied by her six great-grandchildren and a loving niece, all of whom brought immense happiness to her later years. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Carrie Vincent Mooneyham, her beloved husband, Arthur “Jack” Laughlin, her dear son, Phil Laughlin, and her brother, Bob Mooneyham. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she carried their memories with her throughout her life. Throughout her years, Hilda's interests brought her great pleasure and allowed her to create lasting memories with her family and friends. She and her late husband, Jack, cherished their trips to the beach with their children, creating a tapestry of joyful moments that would be recounted for years to come. After Jack's passing, Hilda continued to explore the world with her friends, visiting numerous places and embracing the beauty of new experiences. A highlight of the holiday season was Hilda's annual rendition of "Oh Holy Night." Her powerful and emotive performance was a cherished tradition, one that gathered friends and family together in a shared moment of reflection and joy, instilling the Christmas spirit in the hearts of all who listened. Hilda's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and music.
