Jean Welch Andrews

Mrs. Jean Welch Andrews, 91, of Graham, NC passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Roy Ambrose Welch and Minnie Whitsell Welch and the wife of 51 years to the love for her life, the late Max Dean Andrews. Jean loved all things in life, but her favorites were cooking for family, friends, neighbors, or anyone in need. She was an avid seamstress and loved nothing more than a difficult puzzle to finish. She would work alongside Max in the garden and would can vegetables to give away. She and Max loved to travel abroad and locally but her happy place was at the beach with her family. Jean retired from AT&T in 1989 working as an Engineering Programmer and was a longtime member of Eastlawn Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Woman’s Sunday School Class, and was always volunteering in some capacity. Jean will forever be remembered for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. Survivors include her daughter, Denise Long; a son, Duane “Shakey” Andrews; her loving grandchildren, Justin Long and wife Meagan, Aaron Long and wife Jennifer, Mackenzie Miles and husband Alex, and Hunter Andrews; her great grandchildren, Kaden Long, Harper Long, Ashlyn Long, Josie Miles, Stetson Miles, Waylon Miles, and Wyette Miles; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Louise Summers, Margaret Hicks, Shirley Gilliam, Aleene Abee, Arthur Welch, Carl Welch, Winford Welch, and William “Pat” Welch; and a son in law, Shelton Long. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday May 31, 2024, at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastors Steve Joyner and Larry Redding officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home and other times at Jean’s residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastlawn Baptist Church at 432 N Sellars Mill Rd, Burlington, NC 27217 or to AuthoraCare Hospice at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
