Jean White Smith May, 90, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC.
Jean was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Sophia, N.C. to George Dewey and Nettie Beatrice White. Retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies, over her career Jean held many positions from clerical to management. Her most rewarding position was serving as event planner and manager where she received many accolades for her work in organizing and supporting nationally recognized tournaments, annual events, and other outreach programs sponsored by AT&T. She was a member of the Eastlawn Baptist Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Jean was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others. She served as a central figure in the lives of her children and family who she loved and cared for deeply. She will be greatly missed.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, George Dewey and Nettie Beatrice White; her sisters, Patsy White Horne, Shirley White Salmon, Peggy White Brown; brother, Charles Murke White; grandson, David Derek Smith II.; and daughter, LuJean Smith Blaylock.
Jean is survived by her sons, David Derek Smith and Todd Jennings Smith; and daughter, Wendy White Smith Vick and husband, Ezekiel Vick. Grandchildren include Heather Roark, Ryan Blaylock, Jennifer Allen, Melanie Smith, Tiffany Farris, and Ashton Smith, as well as her much loved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at McClure Funeral Service in Graham, NC on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 1:00PM. The family will available to receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Afterwards, a memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at the home of Patrick and Candace Salmon-Hosey (niece).
