Jeffrey William Modlin

Jeffrey William Modlin, known affectionately as Jeff to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully at his residence in Mebane, NC, on July 31, 2025. Born on September 15, 1961, in Alamance County, NC, Jeff's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, commitment, and joy. Jeff was a devoted husband to his wife, Candice Gasque Modlin, a loving father to his son, Michael Devin Gasque and his wife Ashland, and a doting grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Carter Gasque. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he nurtured each relationship with care and affection. Jeff also shared a special bond with his cousins, Roger Shields and his wife Rita, and Dee Murphy and her husband Frank, all of whom will miss him deeply. A proud graduate of Eastern Alamance High School, Jeff's commitment to his community was evident in his long-standing career at Kidde in Mebane, where he dedicated over 40 years of service. His work ethic and loyalty were unparalleled, and his colleagues will remember him as a pillar of strength and reliability. Jeff's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. As a football coach at Eastern Alamance and with Mebane Recreation, he left an indelible mark on the lives of countless young athletes. His guidance on the field was matched only by his wisdom off it, shaping the character and futures of the kids he coached. Jeff retired from coaching in 2024, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and inspiration. Jeff's interests were as vibrant and varied as his personality. An ardent Duke sports fan, he bled blue and never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams. His love for the beach was profound, finding joy in any place where salt water met sand. An avid golfer, Jeff spent many happy hours on the green, and his love for softball saw him playing for years alongside his buddies. The heart of any gathering, Jeff was always the entertainer, welcoming friends and family into his home to celebrate life's moments, big and small. His laughter and stories filled the air, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Above all, Jeff's role as "Pop Pop" to his granddaughter, Carter, was his most cherished. The light of his eye, she brought him immeasurable happiness, and his love for her knew no bounds. Jeffrey William Modlin's life was a beacon of joy, love, and laughter. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday August 5, 2025 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane with the Pastor Sammy Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:45 on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence of the family.

As we remember Jeff, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Jeff embodied this sentiment, leaving behind a world that is indeed a bit better for his presence.
