John C. "Buck" Clayton, 88, of Efland, NC passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at his residence. A native of Orange County, NC. He was the son of Lonzie and Lula Clayton both deceased.
He was a very private person but loved his family dearly. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He received the European occupation, the Good Conduct medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from Pilot Freight Carrier and May Apparel as a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Joyce Payne Clayton of the home. Sons, Lloyd Clayton (Janice) of Mebane, NC, Carlton Clayton (Debbie) of Mebane, NC, Royce Clayton (Gayle) of Mebane, NC., Daughter, Cheryl Borg (Tony) of Beaver Creek, Colorado and Sydney, Australia. Five Grandchildren, Jessica Lutterloh, Dustin Clayton, Darty Clayton, David Clayton, and Dana Clayton. Two step grandchildren, Jerry White and Maranda White. Five great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Odell and sisters, Nona Faye Clayton, Thelma Scott and Elvaleen Warren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 7:00 PM in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Officiating will be Reverend Judy Alliger. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church Mission Fund or to the Bradley Shambley Scholarship Fund, 3105 Chestnut Ridge Church Rd., Efland, NC 27243.
